[Greeting of many greetings.]

[OPENING THEME MUSIC: Vancefurd- Pirate Song]

SANDY: Aargh! What’s up, Pirates. This is Sandy, and we are here again for another podcast. And today I’m joined once again by Theo. What’s up, Theo?

THEO: Hello.

SANDY: And um, our dear Scottish darling, Scarlett, is still very ill, so she sent in um, a few submissions for you all to, you know, not com- you know, not go through total Scarlett withdrawal. Um. But she can’t be here for our whole podcast. Um. And, you know, instead of it just being the two of us-

THEO: You know that actually makes me suspicious though. Because if she can send stuff in… I think it’s just us. I think she just doesn’t like us.

SANDY: Maybe she doesn’t. Maybe she’s just, you know, decided she doesn’t wanna play with us anymore.

THEO: Aw.

SANDY: I know. It’s tragic, right?

THEO: That’s not true.

[Laughter]

THEO: We should say right now.

SANDY: We said that about you and you came back.

THEO: I’m hoping it’s not true. I don’t think it’s true.

SANDY: Yeah. Hopefully not.

THEO: I don’t want a very angrily worded Scottish letter zipping my way.

SANDY: Yeah. Seriously. You know. She’s tiny but feisty, so. Um. You have to be wary of that. Well normally, you know, we would just hang out and, you know, talk to each other about the show. But we were getting ready to record and we were- you know all of us that work on the podcast team are actually, you know, good friends. And we were chatting it up with uh, Cameron and Bailey, and we thought, why not have Cameron come on with us today? You know?

[Cameron will certainly provide reasons why not.]

THEO: Absolutely.

SANDY: She’s been contributing-

THEO: Welcome, Cameron.

SANDY: Yeah, welcome.

CAM: Hey! Thanks.

THEO: It’s always good to have another voice to uh, you know, at least one more chance of someone telling me I’m silly and should stop talking, so.

CAM: Yeah. I’ll try to seize that opportunity whenever I can.

[Reason #1]

THEO: You should, because Sandy needs all the help she can get when it comes to that.

SANDY: Exactly. He’s hard to wrangle in. Um. And also, you know, correct me if I’m wrong but, I’m pretty sure that Cameron is a big Francis Capra fan, and given that this week saw the return of Weevil, it seemed appropriate to have you here for that.

CAM: Yes. Yes. My favorite thing is always to say: hey, where’s Weevil?

SANDY: Yeah. You know. You can see that from her bio.

THEO: And now you have an answer.

CAM: Weevil’s here. He’s back, and he’s at the car wash.

THEO: That’s right.

SANDY: Which is not nearly as fun as the song makes it sound. And, there we go. I’m ripping song um, lines from the show now.

THEO: I’m glad that our mention of him in the podcast last week is what, I think, really brought him back to the show.

SANDY: Yeah. Actually, what you guys don’t know is that they cut him out of this week’s episode but, um, the gods were listening to us because, you know, why would they?

THEO: They do. Because it’s us.

SANDY: And they decided to put Weevil back in the episode just because Theo requested it.

THEO: That’s right. And if Francis Capra wants, you know, to send us a thank you letter; that’s fine. If he wants to come in for an interview; that’s even better.

SANDY: Yeah. Exactly. He can make up for the fact that he ditched me at Comic Con. Hello?

THEO: Oh! You know, sometimes you just have to let things go.

SANDY: I’m not getting that.

CAM: He likes to play hard to get, you know? I think that’s why I like him so much.

SANDY: Yeah.

THEO: He’s used to running from the law.

[Laughter]

CAM: There’s an open invitation.

SANDY: Yes. All right. Well speaking of TPTB and listening to podcasts, there is actually now an official Veronica Mars podcast. And it’s actually been available for a couple of weeks. But initially we thought that it was just going to offer the exclusive content that you can find on the Veronica Mars MySpace page, which includes, you know, sort of short little interviews or um, sound bytes from the cast. But now actually, for all of you podcast fans out there, which: I would think would include all of you.

[Giggles]

SANDY: Just guessing. Um. But for those of you who are podcast fans, you should check it out because now every week they are going to have exclusive podcasts with the writer of the episode, and usually a special guest, somebody who’s editing or um, last week it was the director of the episode. So definitely check those out because they are really insightful and really funny.

THEO: You should consider it a sort of supplemental material for uh, the Neptune Pirate Radio podcast.

SANDY: Yes. Yeah. Yeah. If you go ditching us for them-

THEO: Suggested reading, really. It’s not required for us. But we’d like to suggest it. It’s very edifying. I think so.

SANDY: Yeah. Exactly. It’s a good time, you know, if you like podcasts, which hopefully you all do. Um. Okay.

THEO: I’d like to hear from the people out there that listen to the podcast that just hate the podcast. Because, I mean, there could be a little fun in that. You know, like constantly watching a show you hate just to like, scream at people and say that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

SANDY: Yeah that’s what I do with One Tree Hi- Um. Sorry.

[Wild laughter]

THEO: Oh!

CAM: We don’t wanna go down that road again.

THEO: Wow.

SANDY: I got in trouble for that last time.

CAM: Now we are gonna hear from people who hate our podcast. So, thank you.

THEO: And that’s sandy [at] neptunepirateradio.com

SANDY: I’m sorry! I’m just kidding! I don’t really watch One Tree Hill. But I had to-

[Giggle fits]

SANDY: I’m sorry. I’m kidding. Okay. There’s nothing wrong with that show. I’m just teasing. Um. Uncross my fingers and moving on. Um.

THEO: That’s right. Sandy [at] neptunepirateradio.com

SANDY: Oh. You guys know I’m just kidding. Um. All right. Well speaking of listener feedback, we actually got the- okay. You guys know I talked about how awesome Cassie’s email was that we got with regard to Gregory Smith, and how now I’m totally this Everwood fangirl and I obsessively watch it all the time. And um. You know, she-

CAM: It’s a great show.

SANDY: It’s an awesome show. Gregory Smith, please come on our show and we’ll chat about Veronica Mars, and I can worship you from afar.

THEO: It’s what we do.

SANDY: Exactly. Um. Anyway. So she went to a CW launch party event and she told us all about that, and she’s like, on the CW street team, which is awesome. Go, Cassie. Represent for Veronica Mars. Um. This week we got another um, awesome email from one of our listeners, T, who made us icons because she’s awesome.

THEO: They are incredible!

SANDY: Aren’t they?

THEO: Can I just say, you know, I’ve seen all these like, different sort of icon pages that have been created, and I’ve always been wowed. And you know I’ve seen all the various fan types, you know, the Buffy, the Harry Potter, and all these like brilliant icons. And then I see the ones that she made for us, and I am just- I have to say I sat down and blushed. I was like, oh my God, these are incredible.

SANDY: Yeah. Well the thing about them is, you know, it’s cool enough that they’re just for Neptune Pirate Radio- I mean not like just for our use, but they’re Neptune Pirate Radio icons. Um. But they’re so pretty and artistic, and I was just way impressed. And they’re so lovely.

CAM: They are really pretty.

SANDY: Yes.

THEO: They have quotes from me on them. I love them!

[Laughter]

SANDY: Yeah. They’re really cute and we were so impressed, and if T gives us permission to do so, we- I’d be happy to send you all a link to them if you wanna see them. If you email me at neptunepirateradio [at] gmail.com, and you say, hey, I wanna see those icons, and T gives me permission; I will forward you the link to those, so.

CAM: Well I gotta say, it’s good that this week’s episode had a theme of jealousy because um, I’m a, I’m a little jealous. Little jealous.

[Reason #2]

SANDY: Aw.

CAM: No Cameron icons.

SANDY: They could all be in brackets!

[CAMERON: HA!]

CAM: Yes.

[THEO chuckle]

CAM: There could’ve been a little something done there. But, you know, I guess we can live with, you know, the evil or dead icons.

[Laughter]

SANDY: All right. Well I’m-

CAM: But whatever.

[CAM fake coughs]

THEO: Wow.

SANDY: I think that’s a request now for somebody to make some Cameron icons. Um. All right. Well on that note we’re gonna take a break, and we’ll come back and talk about this week’s episode, Wichita Linebacker.

[Cameron loves the breaks! She is proud of herself for not being too verbose yet!]

[The Easy Way by Bob Gentry plays]

SCARVO: Bad boys just bothersome boys in your life? If they scorn, we’ll reform. Just call 0800-NOTRICKS in connection with the Veronica Mars Fund for the Tortured and Alone. No refunds, no guarantees. Trip to Mexico not included.

THEO: Welcome back, Veronica Mars’ fans. I have a funny story to relate to you guys. I just moved into this new apartment, lovely new apartment. And uh, I recorded the entire first segment of the uh, podcast today, with my front door wide open. So pretty much everyone else in the building got a free glimpse of what the uh, podcast will be like.

SANDY: That’s pretty funny. I’m picturing you-

THEO: It’s pretty embarrassing.

SANDY: Well, it’s New York. So it doesn’t- it’s not really that embarrassing. But I’m picturing people like, walk past, but you have your little headphones on and you’re wandering about your apartment talking to yourself.

[Laughter]

THEO: You know what? I do that more often than you’d think. So.

SANDY: Yeah. Well maybe some of our listeners were walking by. Maybe some of them live in your area of New York.

THEO: Wow.

CAM: Maybe they’re gathered outside your door right now.

THEO: Wow. Maybe that was what the candlelight vigil was for.

[Laughter]

SANDY: Perfect.

THEO: Next time, bring cookies. That’s all I have to say.

SANDY: Snickerdoodles.

CAM: Snickerdoodles.

SANDY: Um. Okay. Well there was a lot to cover this week, so why don’t we get started.

THEO: Absolutely.

CAM: Yes.

SANDY: Okay. Let’s start with Weevil… as the new Wallace!

THEO: Yeah. Yeah, and I think, Cameron, you had a really good point earlier about sort of the access, you know, Weevil being the new Wallace.

CAM: Yes. Because, you know, Weevil now has that maintenance job at the university, which means, suddenly, Veronica’s got all the keys again whenever she desired them for her investigations or whatever she needs them for. Perhaps a key to the library after hours for, you know, whatever.

THEO: Some illicit research.

[Giggles]

CAM: Yes.

SANDY: Yeah. But it’s true.

THEO: I wonder if she’ll have a study buddy, in that case.

SANDY: It’s true though with maintenance comes access, and you know, that’s one of the things that was lacking a lot, um, third year, with sort of the fun of Wallace breaking in everywhere and stealing things with his keys. You know, I think it’s kind of fun that Weevil can sort of serve somewhat of that purpose this season.

CAM: Yeah.

SANDY: Now that he’s all respectable.

THEO: Plus it’s good to see him back. And uh, I felt bad, you know. He was kind of working sort of the uh, ex-con that- one of the typical sort of ex-con jobs where they work in like, sort of an auto body shop or “the car wash” as you so eloquently put it. But uh, I loved him as the detective. I thought he was such- Sandy and I were discussing the episode as it aired and we were just like, you know what? This is so perfect it can’t last.

SANDY: Yeah. Yeah.

THEO: You know. This is such a great idea. I mean he clearly loved it and he was clearly good at it, and he was very passionate about it. So we were like, this cannot stand. This will not stand. This will not stand.

SANDY: No. No, people can’t be too happy in Neptune.

THEO: Absolutely.

SANDY: But it was cool that they sort of- you know in some ways I think it would have been a little cliché to have him like, all of a sudden work at Mars Investigations. It would have been nice because it would have given us an open look at Keith’s job, you know, still. We still would have routinely seen Keith’s cases, which I think are always a little darker than the cases that Veronica encounters. But at the same time I’m glad that the show has explored and then dismissed that as an option, sort of like what we talked about last week with Parker going home. They recognized that like, this is a possibility, and maybe things would work out like this in real life, but we’re not gonna actually go there. We’re not gonna go there.

THEO: Well maybe not- maybe more of a just, not yet for Weevil in the private investigator career field. Um. Maybe they’ve, you know- it’s obvious that he’s been bitten by the bug. So maybe he’ll either work for Keith again or for Vinnie Van Lowe, perhaps who is not knows for being the uh, most professional private investigator in Neptune.

SANDY: Or you know, coming back to the Weevil is the new Wallace mentality; it sets him up to really help Veronica. Because he’s, he’s genuine muscle that she can take with her, and um-

CAM: Exactly. He’ll give her keys but he’ll also go with her and watch her back.

SANDY: Right, and offer more insight into things that are going on, you know, which is something that I think Wallace sort of always bring the audience perspective to an investigation, sort of an outsider looking in.

THEO: Yeah.

SANDY: And Weevil could be an actual partner for her in some ways, which could be kind of fun to explore.

THEO: I like that. I think that’s an interesting idea. She obviously likes him and she’s obviously… I don’t know. He has the job-

CAM: Weevil-

[Cameron wins the talking fight.]

CAM: Well, Weevil’s- he’s of the same mold as Veronica. Like, he- you know even when he had the PCHers he had to keep an eye on everything. He had to notice the nuances and he failed there, so I think it’s made him even more observant and more suspicious. He’ll really be an asset, I think, just because he will notice like, the little things. Like with the case where um, he solved for Keith, where he was noticed who was actually switching out the shoeboxes, you know.

SANDY: Right.

CAM: So he can give Veronica a little bit more insight. She’s not gonna walk into places so blindly.

SANDY: Yeah.

THEO: They both also have the same fault in that they sort of let their emotions take hold of them uh, too quickly and with too little thought. And uh, I think that is a good, it’s a good chance to talk about the uh, the Logan and Veronica issues this week.

SANDY: Yeah. Oh, definitely. That was um, you know it was really cool to sort of see- I think from a ‘shippers perspective, um, a lot of people get frustrated with Logan and Veronica because it seems like at least the way the show paints it, Logan always makes the mistakes and Veronica always does the forgiving. And Logan’s always the pursuer and Veronica’s always the pursued. And it seemed like for the first time, really it was very clear her investment in the relationship, particularly the end scene when she gets very choked up and, you know, you saw her make mistakes. Logan made a mistake but she made a worse mistake and they were both wrong, and neither was totally right. It wasn’t black and white at all, which most relationship arguments aren’t.

THEO: Yeah.

CAM: They share responsibility and it was nice to see that.

SANDY: Yeah. Yeah.

THEO: And I’m totally sympathetic, especially with her. Um. Because you know in every relationship there’s sort of the whole, you know, how much trust are you willing to put in the other person. How much do you want to put a bug in their car, you know.

SANDY: Right.

THEO: Stuff like that. And so uh, it’s good to see her come to a very adult decision and saying, you know what? If it’s gonna work it just has to. I can’t be constantly bugging. I can’t be constantly listening. And it was also I think a very promising sign, especially after his behavior for the past couple of weeks, where I thought I saw Logan sort of slipping towards, you know, immaturity and the sort of, you know, “what’s next” mentality when it comes to women. But uh, it was good to see him sort of come to his senses and say, you’ve got what you want. You know? This is the best thing that could have happened here. So, don’t blow it, you idiot.

SANDY: Yeah.

THEO: So I love to see, I love the ending scene where he comes back looking like sort of a lost puppy.

SANDY: And, you know, I think it’s a testament to their acting too, in that scene. I mean I think there was so much more said in their actions in that last scene than in their words. You know. The way she choked. The way he sort of raised his eyebrows in order to kind of make a joke, but he didn’t really make a joke. But, you know, the- just the way they sort of, the intensity that they bring to the scene I think was the first time this season we’ve really seen that trademark Logan and Veronica energy. Which was nice.

THEO: It was. It’s good to see. ‘Cause I was so worried. Because I know, I know the vast majority of people out there are big supporters of Logan and Veronica. But after last week’s episode I, I thought it was kind of on the rocks. I thought- and maybe it still is, but I was worried. This gives me a little hope that, you know, they’ve sort of grown up a bit and are ready to sort of face, I guess the problems of any long term relationship.

CAM: I really, you know, I really bought the relationship for the first time. For them to actually address a problem and work it out?

THEO: Yeah.

CAM: I’ve never been the biggest… I’m a big Logan fan but I’ve always kind of- ah, I’m gonna get attacked for saying this or whatever, but I’ve, I haven’t been a big fan of them in a relationship together. He’s the, he’s the homme fatale and it’s just- he’s so, there’s so much wrong with him and wrong with them when they’re together but this is the first time where I was like, oh, well, okay. You know. They’re both being crazy but they actually talked about it and tried to work it out. Both made an effort to step forward and act like adults.

THEO: Yeah.

SANDY: Yeah. And I think too that what’s important most of all about this is like you said, it’s the first time you buy it as a relationship. I think we all sort of recognize that at some point Logan and Veronica are gonna break up. There’s no way that the show is gonna have these two characters together forever. I mean, I’m completely unspoiled but that just seems reasonable to me that at some point they’re gonna break up. And I think I’m like-

THEO: Well personally I don’t know a single couple who made it through. You know, who started dating in high school and made it through college still dating without having some sort of interruption, whether it was permanent or simply temporary.

SANDY: Right. Yeah. I mean it doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t necessarily be the end game in terms of relationships on the show, but I think, you know, there’s gonna be some sort of break. And what I think is important and what’s nice to see as a change from last year is you- the show is really working to make you sort of believe that relationship so that when that breakup comes, it’s that much more tragic. Instead of people sort of um, cheering like they did last season when Duncan disappeared, you know, I think even if they break up and it’s permanent you’ll still sort of lament that loss of what they had. ‘Cause you see the good times and you see what about the relationship sort of makes it worthwhile. You know. We can talk about Logan and Veronica all day but I know that people aren’t gonna let me do that, so. There are plenty of other things to talk about this week.

THEO: Yeah. Speaking of which, I really liked uh, Ed Begley Jr. as Dean O’Dell, I guess. I believe that was his name.

SANDY: Yeah.

THEO: I was so glad to see him because I’ve been a big fan of his ever since I can remember, and he was hilarious on Arrested Development. And uh, now he’s on this. You know, Sandy I think you said earlier that he’s sort of the poor man’s Principal Clemmons.

SANDY: Yeah.

CAM: Yes.

THEO: Vice principal, or- no, principal.

SANDY: Principal now.

CAM: Principal.

THEO: I liked him. I liked his, I thought he was- he was almost too much of a hardass, but then again he joked around. You know? I thought that was some of the funniest stuff on the episode.

SANDY: Yeah. Sort of the dry sense of humor. I’m a big Ed Begley Jr. fan because one of my favorite movies in the entire world is Best in Show.

THEO: Oh yeah.

SANDY: God, I love that movie so much. He is so funny in that, just sort of being very straight man and dry, and you know, he brought some of that to this scene where he was- you know we talked about it before, the whole comment about she was one of his students back when you could do things like that. It was just sort of an offhanded remark but it’s so funny. There were so many good lines this week just in general. Man.

THEO: Oh yeah.

SANDY: It was chock full of the one-liners.

THEO: I’m sorry. I have to say I thought it was hilarious when the um, the I guess the parody Hearst school newspaper published the photo of the guys holding up the banner that says, “No thanks, except for maybe the blonde girl in the middle.” I have to say I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard at anything that wasn’t The Onion. You know.

SANDY: Yeah.

CAM: Yes.

THEO: It was-

CAM: -very Onion-like.

SANDY: It’s very, that sort of so highly inappropriate humor that… you can’t help but- and you know I think that’s what’s so interesting about that relationship on the show, and we’re actually going to next week um, have a discussion on feminism and how it’s portrayed on the show but we don’t want to do it sort of half-heartedly, so we’re sort of working on a concrete way to do that. And if you have any ideas or you have any thoughts about that, please feel free to email us. But um, you know I think it was interesting to short of show that sort of… it’s so extreme that you don’t- clearly anybody who’s actually raping girls is not going to publish a photo like that in a paper. You know what I mean? They’re sort of mocking- they’re not mocking rape in that scenario so much as they’re mocking the extreme point of view that’s being portrayed as the women’s group who’s anti-rape. Which I think is interesting that we’ve sort of seen these two highly opposed groups instead of where the general public falls, which is in the middle. And, you know, it’s interesting that we have these two groups that are sort of combative with each other that are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

THEO: Well yeah. I don’t even know if I would consider the school parody paper - I’m not sure what the name is, I’m sorry – but I’m not sure I would consider that the opposite of them. I just think they’re having, you know, I think that they’re just saying calm down. I think that’s really where a lot of people are. And maybe they’re, you know, pushing them a little bit the other way but I don’t think they’re out there saying rape is fine. You know what I mean?

SANDY: No. But that’s what I mean in terms of extremes. I think the extremes are in the reactions not in the actions, like I don’t think that they are condoning rape.

THEO: Of course not.

SANDY: They’re saying that the Lilith House’s response to the rapes on campus is too extreme. That’s what they’re mocking. They’re mocking the response to the rape. They’re not mocking the rape. You know, which is still, you know, it’s still distasteful or whatever, it’s very T-shirthell [dot] com esque, or whatever. You know, it’s interesting because I think it’s very true. I think you would see both sort of varied extremes in terms of response where it’s like; your response is ridiculous. Well your response is ridiculous. And most people sort of fall in the middle.

THEO: Yeah.

CAM: And what’s interesting about this and basically this whole episode too is it’s really, it’s really setting up, more so than the others, Veronica’s entire life at Hearst and all these relationships, her allies, her enemies. And even when she reads that article too, she’s like; I would think it was funny if, you know, blah blah blah. And it just, it’s just another part of really setting up the entire school, really, setting up the Hearst campus for us, which while it’s annoying to just see these extremes, I guess I’m kind of seeing that it’s setting them up so we can find out where Veronica falls in all of this.

SANDY: Right. Right. Who she can trust, who she can’t trust. Um. Speaking of Veronica investigating, there’s not a whole lot to say about the A plot this week. It wasn’t, I mean it was just whatever. Somebody stole a playbook, you know?

THEO: Yeah.

SANDY: But what I loved-

THEO: Maybe we missed something? If so, I’m sure we’d like to hear about it. But uh, I didn’t think there was much to advance the um-

SANDY: The main plot, yeah.

THEO: The arc, the mystery arc.

SANDY: But what I loved about- I loved how everything sort of tied together this week. I think everything sort of fit in really nicely with each other um, in that nothing seemed superfluous. Nothing seemed- you know one of the comments that was made about last week’s episode, which I think is a valid critique, is that it seemed very much: “Well now, let’s check in on Wallace and Logan. And now we’re back to checking in on Veronica.” And it seemed like these little vignettes, whereas this week it seemed like everything tied together. Logan and Veronica’s relationship related to the gambling ring, which was related to the playbook theft, which brought Veronica’s feelings about Logan to light when she dealt with the girlfriend, and it all tied back in, which went back to the principal and Piz. I mean everything was connected, which seemed very- it made all of the things that we were following this week seem very organic. To steal a word from Mark Schwann.

THEO: Quick question. Do you think the um, I forget his name. The uh, football player whose uh, playbook-

CAM: Kurt.

THEO: Kurt. Kurt’s uh, do you think Kurt, you know, made the right decision when he was just like, I’m leaving. Like, I can’t believe you did this to me. If something like that were to happen to you, do you think you would have reacted in the same way or would you have said okay, I understand why you did this, you know, let’s stay together, or would you have just said, no way?

SANDY: Um. I think the initial reaction is to say no way. I think the whole point is that you can’t have relationships without trust and she betrayed him.

CAM: She’s controlling.

THEO: Yeah.

SANDY: You can’t, a relationship can’t thrive in a situation like that at all.

THEO: Yeah.

SANDY: Um. Something I wanna bring up before we forget that I meant to bring up a moment ago before we talked about the A plot is I love, love, love the scene where Veronica was undercover as what I assume is a field hockey player. Um.

[Giggles]

SANDY: And she, she gets stuck and like, for once is completely caught red-handed. She has no exit and she has no line in her head, and she’s just completely like- it was so human and fallible, and I love that because sometimes she gets off a little too easy, and I loved that she was like, “uuuuum.”

THEO: Oh yeah. I was always expecting the coach to just sort of walk back out of the room and her to dance off with the new playbook.

SANDY: Yeah, to like not notice it was printing when of course you would notice it was printing.

CAM: And she got reported.

THEO: Yeah.

SANDY: Yeah. I loved it.

THEO: It’s always good to see her building her record already. I enjoyed that.

SANDY: Yeah she’s, she’s, you know. It was just fun to see her sort of get in over her head and not really know what to do about it, and be like “uuuuuuhhh.” That was so well played by Kristen Bell. Sometimes- she is so good at comedy and it’s moments like that when she really shines, I think, more so than when she’s being over the top and “aha, I got it” with regard to solving a case. I love it more when she’s sort of caught and she doesn’t know what to say and I thought she played that so brilliantly. I loved it. Anything else about this episode?

THEO: I think that about does it.

CAM: Yeah.

SANDY: We need Piz to come on our show. Come on, Piz.

THEO: Oh, I love his radio show. I love it.

CAM: He can guest host.

THEO: He can guest host any day he wants.

SANDY: Yes. And he’s cute. You’re cute Chris Lowell. I know we’re supposed to hate you but I just don’t. I think you’re cute.

THEO: No. Who’s supposed to hate him? You’re not supposed to hate him.

SANDY: Um. I think as a Logan/Veronica fan just generally people are- you feel that you’re supposed to hate him. I don’t think that’s been the actual reaction.

THEO: Of course anyone that’s very dedicated to that relationship is gonna feel some sort of jealousy and threat-

CAM: No. No.

THEO: -you know, some sort of threat. But I like him. I- you can’t blame him for having a crush on this girl. You can’t blame him. She is brilliant. She’s funny. She’s smart. She’s clever, intelligent, resourceful. And the fact that it took Logan so long to like, really get, you know, to see that? Like, and Piz sees it immediately.

SANDY: Yeah.

THEO: So I have a lot of respect for him. I like his character.

SANDY: He’s fun. He’s definitely fun.

THEO: Yeah.

SANDY: He’s a nice sort of naïve character to come in, and I hope something really awful happens to him.

[Laughter]

SANDY: Um. Just because I think he’s really sweet and nice, and I want Neptune to corrupt him because that’s what Neptune does. Wallace was really sweet and nice for a whole season.

THEO: Don’t you think the impending heartbreak of- I mean he’s not gonna derail Logan and Veronica.

SANDY: That’s not enough. That’s not enough.

CAM: He should hang out with Mac, who I missed this week.

THEO: Yeah. TT. That’s true too.

SANDY: Aw, Mac is good. Um. We got a little glimpse of Dick. Yay! I love D- you know I think Dick, the character

[CAM and THEO giggle like children. Dick.]

SANDY: I think Dick- shut up. I think Dick the character is so awful and I think he’s completely irredeemable and whatever, but I love watching-

THEO: I love it!

CAM: But I love it!

SANDY: -Ryan Hansen. I love him so much.

THEO: Oh yeah.

SANDY: I love Ryan Hansen. I think he’s brilliant. I love the character. I think he’s funny and I just, more Dick, please. That’s all I gotta say. All right.

[Laughter]

SANDY: More Mac for Cameron, more Dick for me. That’s all I’m asking for.

[Giggles]

THEO: I’m serious guys; I’m in 8th grade when it comes to making bad jokes in my head, so.

SANDY: That’s all right. We all are.

CAM: Dick. What you see is what you get.

[Reason #3]

[Giggles]

SANDY: Um. Yeah.

CAM: Well. Now that we’ve gone down that road…

SANDY: Yes. Exactly. I think we’ve basically exhausted this episode.

THEO: That’s right.

SANDY: And we need next week; we need more Lamb. We need more Dick. We need more Mac.

CAM: Wallace.

SANDY: Hello! Wallace.

THEO: We essentially need a four-hour episode next week. You know, it worked when I asked for Weevil to come back this week, so maybe if I ask for a four-hour episode for next week, maybe it will, you know, maybe they’ll see what they can do.

SANDY: Yeah. All right, well it works for me. I’m up for it.

THEO: Yeah. Sweet. Excellent.

SANDY: Cool. Well. On that note.

THEO: Put that order in, please.

SANDY: If you’re listening, powers that be, we pimped your podcast; now give us a four-hour episode.

THEO: That’s not much. Four hours.

CAM: I think that’s very reasonable.

SANDY: I agree.

THEO: I agree.

SANDY: All right. On that note we’re gonna stop our broadcast now and we’ll be back after this with the music segment.

[BREAKAGE]

SCARVO: I’m out of action mostly, my fellow scallywags, so just a few episode thoughts from me today. Where’s Logan? Not quite as much fun as where’s Waldo. When he wears the stripy hat, then we’ll talk. Working at the car wash? Weevil’s wash down. Is it really the full body service? This is what we all want to know. That, and how good is prison food. The Hearst Rough Riders. They do it bareback, right? And finally, I love Dick. It’s an over coined phrase for a reason.

[SHORT BREAK. Cameron is displeased.]

SANDY: What’s up, Pirates. This is Sandy and I’m here with Bailey, and we’re about to do our music segment. Theo had to take a little break. You’ll just have to excuse him for this little bit and just deal with us girls.

BAILEY: Yeah. And I have to apologize ahead of time ‘cause I sound kind of- I sound really awful, to be honest, but I couldn’t let Theo take my job. I was terrified, missing last week, that I was gonna get booted.

[CAMERON: NEVER!]

[SANDY giggles]

SANDY: He did a pretty good job in your absence.

BAILEY: He did. It was a little scary for me for a minute. I heard him and I was like, oh no. I’ve been replaced.

SANDY: We could never fully replace you, Bailey.

BAILEY: No.

SANDY: Ever.

BAILEY: So I’m on here with my scratchy voice. I’m taking a break. I decided to record a music album while I have the nice, throaty thing going on.

SANDY: It’s like when Phoebe catches the cold and she decides that she likes her voice much better because she can sing, like, Smelly Cat with a really sultry sound.

BAILEY: That’s what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna go record the Smelly Cat equivalent. Yeah.

[Giggles]

SANDY: Perfect. Well I feel like there was a lot of music this week. Maybe I’m just making that up in my head. Um.

BAILEY: There wasn’t a bunch of music, but it was really quality music. I was very pleased with the music selection this week. I was so excited. There were some really good things in there. Um. The first song that we actually hear hasn’t been identified yet. And this is the song where Piz is pitching his radio show to Trish. So if you know that song or any of the unrecognized songs from this episode, just go ahead an email me and we’ll get those out to you as we figure them out.

BAILEY: Um. The second song was just in there for a little bit and it’s classic, and it was Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple. And we heard that during the flashback of when Kurt and Pop were playing their uh, the Guitar Hero I think it’s called, video game.

SANDY: Yeah.

BAILEY: And that was kind of exciting to hear something like that on there. You know everybody knows that song.

SANDY: Yeah we used to have um, both in high school when I was a cheerleader and in college when I was on dance team, we had little routines to Smoke on the Water, which I think is, you know, probably pretty true of everybody. But it brought back a lot of little flashbacks for me. Sorry.

BAILEY: I love Smoke on the Water. I think- I don’t think there’s anybody, there’s probably people who don’t like it, but I don’t think there’s anybody who doesn’t recognize it. So that was nice to hear that in there. Um. The second song we have is when Keith was telling Veronica about the problem he had with Weevil during the job. And this was Neko Case with Hold on, Hold on. And you can download it and listen to it at her MySpace, which is: www.myspace.com/nekocase. And that’s also another really good song.

BAILEY: Uh, the next song is unidentified as of yet and it’s when Veronica goes to the radio station to talk to Trish. So again, if you know that just give me an email.

SANDY: Hearst radio and their random music.

BAILEY: Yeah, I know. That’s a little weird. You know. Well it’s a college radio station, probably got all that indie, you know, not very well known stuff going on. Like we do.

SANDY: Exactly!

BAILEY: Yeah. And the last song I was very excited to hear. It’s an amazing song, and I think it’s really great and it was perfect for this scene, and that was Regina Spektor with Fidelity. And it really is such a good song. It’s kind of like a feel good song. Whenever I hear that song it just makes me smile.

SANDY: Yeah.

BAILEY: And this song was used in the scene with Veronica and Logan where they’re in the library and she’s apologizing to him and explaining about her trust issues. I just think, I don’t know, it’s just one of those good songs and because it was in that scene it’s gonna make me smile even more from now on.

SANDY: Yeah. It’s um, it’s actually a song too. They sort of snuck it onto Veronica’s official MySpace page for a couple days leading up to the premiere, which had people speculating about when it was gonna be used and if it was gonna be used for a Logan/Veronica scene, so. They definitely came through with that, which is also a sign that if you want to, you know, be a little investigative of the music on the show you might want to check out Veronica Mars’ official MySpace page and see what shows up over there.

BAILEY: Exciting.

SANDY: Yup.

BAILEY: And you can listen to the song at her MySpace, which is: www.myspace.com/reginaspektor. And um, that was all the music for this week but I do have a little something that I have to say. I’ve been having a lot of inquiry about the Veronica Mars song that we played in the premiere podcast, and I realized that I was an idiot and I didn’t link to The Annabel Chongs where you could listen and download the song. And you can listen and download it at their MySpace- I’m sorry, my voice is starting to go now. You can listen to it at their MySpace, which is: www.myspace.com/theannabelchongs.

SANDY: Perfect. Well thanks for coming by and braving through the sickness too.

BAILEY: I’m sorry. I hope it wasn’t too awful for everybody.

SANDY: No. It was great.

[CAMERON: It was dead sexy.]

SANDY: It’s always great when you’re here. Okay. Well thanks. We’re gonna take a break and then we’ll be back after this.

BAILEY: Okay.

[Break a leg.]

[Warning Shot by Dave Mttucci]

CAMVO: Hey. Where’s Wallace?

SCARVO: Hey there, Pirates. We hope you’ve enjoyed the show. Lots of goodness all around this week. Some Keith. Some Weevil. Some establishment hating on V, and a teeny, tiny bit of Piz. Success, methinks. But now it’s time for us to depart. Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of whatever Dick’s drinking.

SCARVO: This is Scarlett with your inspirational message. Jealousy, jealousy, jealousy. It’s such an evil thing. – Paris Hilton

SCARVO: Until next week, Pirates.

[CLOSING THEME! Brent Pocker- Neptune’s Water
